The Centurion Comes to Jesus
When Jesus entered the town of Capernaum, a Roman centurion (a soldier leader) came to Him asking for help. The centurion was very worried about his servant. "Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly." The centurion knew Jesus could help, so he came to find Him right away.
Jesus Offers to Come
Jesus listened to the centurion with compassion. He cared about the sick servant and wanted to help. Jesus said to the centurion, "Shall I come and heal him?" Jesus was ready to go to the centurion's house to heal the servant. But the centurion had something surprising to say!
The Centurion's Amazing Faith
The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed." He explained, "I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one, 'Go,' and he goes. I tell another, 'Come,' and he comes. I understand how authority works—and I believe You have authority over sickness!" When Jesus heard this, He was amazed and said to the people following Him, "Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith!"
The Servant is Healed
Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would." At that very moment, even though Jesus was far away from the house, the servant was healed! The centurion's faith in Jesus' power made the miracle happen. When the centurion got home, he found his servant completely well and healthy. Jesus is amazing!
