Moses was no ordinary boy; he was raised as a prince in Egypt's grand palaces, even though he was born an Israelite. You see, a kind princess found him in a basket floating on the river and decided to raise him as her own. He grew up with the finest education, wearing splendid robes, and learning from the wisest teachers in the land.

Leaving the Palace

As Moses became a man, he began to notice the suffering of his true people, the Israelites. They were being treated very poorly, forced to work hard with no rest as slaves for the powerful Egyptians.

One day, seeing an Egyptian being very cruel to an Israelite, Moses became so angry that he defended the Israelite and accidentally hurt the Egyptian badly. Knowing this could lead to big trouble, Moses ran away into the desert to hide and start a new life.

A New Home in Midian

Moses travelled far and finally settled in the land of Midian. There, he became a shepherd, looking after a flock of sheep for many years. He married a wonderful woman named Zipporah, and they had sons. Life was simple, but Moses never forgot where he came from.

The Adventure Begins: The Burning Bush

One day, while Moses was taking care of his sheep near Mount Horeb, sometimes called the mountain of God, he noticed something incredible. There was a bush covered in flames, but the bush wasn't burning up!

Moses thought, "How strange is this? A bush that is on fire but not turning into smoke or ashes!? I must go see it."

God Speaks to Moses

As Moses approached the burning bush, a voice called out, "Moses! Moses!" Moses replied, "Here I am."

The voice said, "Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."

Moses did as he was told, and the voice continued, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." Moses was so afraid that he hid his face.

God said he saw the suffering of the Israelites in Egypt, and he had chosen Moses to lead them out of slavery and into a beautiful land of their own. But Moses had doubts.

A Reluctant Hero

Moses asked, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"

God promised Moses, "I will be with you," and He gave Moses a special sign, promising that he would worship God on this mountain once he had led the people out of Egypt.

Still, Moses was scared. He wasn't sure people would believe him or that he was good at speaking. But God had a plan.

Signs and Promises

God told Moses, "Throw down your staff," and when he did, it turned into a snake! Then God told Moses to grab the snake by the tail, and when he did, it turned back into a staff.

God also made Moses' hand temporarily diseased and then healed it, showing another sign. He told Moses that if the people or Pharaoh did not believe the first two signs, he should take water from the Nile and pour it on dry ground, where it would turn to blood.

Moses was still worried because he didn't think he was a good speaker. God said that Aaron, Moses' brother, could speak for him, and God would help them both.

Saying Yes to the Mission

Finally, Moses agreed to go back to Egypt. With his staff in hand, the symbol of God's power, and with the promise of his brother Aaron's help, he set off to fulfill his destiny.

Before leaving, Moses said goodbye to his father-in-law, Jethro, and took his wife and sons with him. He was ready to face Pharaoh, ready to lead his people to freedom, and ready to trust in the God who spoke from within the flames.
