What is Tithing?

Tithing is a spiritual practice found in many religious traditions, particularly in Christianity, where believers contribute a portion of their income to their church or religious organization. The word "tithe" literally means "tenth," traditionally representing 10% of one's income. The app includes the biblical reference from Malachi 3:10, which encourages believers to "bring the whole tithe into the storehouse" as an act of faith and obedience.
Key Features
Income Input System
The app allows users to enter their income amount in a clean, straightforward input field. Users can input any income amount, making it suitable for various financial situations, from modest earnings to substantial incomes.
Flexible Income Frequency Options
One of the app's standout features is its ability to handle different income frequencies:
- Monthly: For those who receive monthly salaries or wages
 - Weekly: For weekly wage earners
 - Bi-weekly: For those paid every two weeks
 - Annual: For those who prefer to calculate based on yearly income

Multiple Tithe Percentage Options
The word of the Lord says we should give 10% of our income as tithing. We also added other percentages, as we recognize that some people may want to give certain percentages for other purposes. We offer the following preset options:
- 5%: For those who want to give for other financial purposes (Not for tithing)
 - 10%: The tithe amount has instructed by God
 - 15% - 20%: For those who wish to give for other major purposes.

Custom Percentage Feature
For maximum flexibility, the app includes a custom percentage input field where users can enter any percentage that aligns with their personal giving goals or religious convictions.
Comprehensive Calculation Display
Once calculated, the app provides a detailed breakdown showing:
- Total Income: The amount entered by the user
 - Tithe Percentage: The selected or custom percentage
 - Tithe Amount: The calculated contribution amount
 - Remaining Amount: Income left after tithing

Annual Giving Breakdown
Our most valuable feature is the annual giving breakdown, which shows how your tithing or contribution amount translates across different time periods:
- Weekly: Shows the weekly contribution amount

Biblical Verses for Tithing

Old Testament Foundations
- Leviticus 27:30: "A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord."
 - Deuteronomy 14:22: "Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year."
 - Genesis 14:20: Abraham gave a tenth to Melchizedek, establishing one of the earliest examples of tithing in Scripture.
 - Genesis 28:22: Jacob vowed, "And of all that you give me I will give you a tenth."

The Malachi Challenge
Malachi 3:8-10: "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."
This passage, featured in the app, represents God's direct challenge to His people regarding faithful tithing and includes a promise of abundant blessing.
New Testament Principles
- Matthew 23:23: Jesus affirmed tithing while emphasizing that it should not replace justice, mercy, and faithfulness: "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former."
 - Luke 6:38: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
 - 2 Corinthians 9:6-7: "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
 - 1 Corinthians 16:2: "On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made."

Principles of Biblical Giving
- Proverbs 3:9-10: "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine."
 - 2 Corinthians 8:12: "For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have."
 - Acts 20:35: "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
